FAQ’s about Wellness Coach Certification
September 14, 2011 by Erin Usher
Do I need to be a counselor or psychologist to be a Wellness Coach? It sounds intense.
NO! A Wellness Coach does not prescribe anything and rarely even gives advice. A good Wellness Coach is skilled at drawing out of a client what’s already in them and asking questions to help a client create their own success and develop self-efficacy.
It sounds a lot like life coaching. What’s the difference?
They are very similar. A Wellness Coach must have a certification or degree in a field of study within the health and fitness industry. This allows the coach to ask more informed questions and potentially stop a client from engaging in a harmful activity.
Do I need to have any prerequisite certifications or degrees?
Yes. Participants in the Vera Fitness Wellness Coach Certification must have a certification or degree from a recognized authority in their respective field.
Who are good candidates for Wellness Coaching?
Doctors, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, physical trainers, group class instructors, cardiac rehabilitation specialists, dieticians, and health educators.
